The Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Builder Sesan Daini, has reiterated that the removal of fuel subsidy and tax reforms being embarked upon by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a good initiative that would bring about developments in the country.

He confirmed that the removal of fuel subsidy has started paying -off with increase in allocations from the federating account to states and councils, and from which local councils have been able to deliver on electoral promises.

Daini, who is also the spokesperson of the Conference 57 (association of Council Chairmen in Lagos State), spoke on behalf of the Conference 57 at the commissioning of a block of six classrooms, ICT centre, offices and toilet facilities at Igbe Ogunro by the Chairman, Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo.

“The tax reform is a good and welcome idea. It is only the people who do not sow that want to reap where they do not have any input.

“One, there is a particular state that forbids taking of alcohol because they consider it a sin, but the tax reform is saying that if you do not consume alcohol, you will not share part of the revenue from alcohol sales, whereas, the state that forbids alcohol consumption the is saying no to it,” he posited.

The Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Council boss said that it is important to educate the populace on the details of the reform agenda of Mr President, and also insisted that tax reform is focusing more on consumption of a particular product and not production.

He also informed the residents that the removal of subsidy has increased allocation to the council areas.

“If the company that is producing a drink is in Lagos, and Osun is consuming the product than Lagos where it is being produced, Osun will definitely have more money from it than Lagos. This is because the reform is not only by product but also consumption. If you produce a product without consuming it, where do you make money from? he asked.

“The removal of subsidy is equally a better development for us in Nigeria. Before now, we know what we get in Ikorodu (allocation), I am proud to say that allocation from the federal has increased. What we are getting before is not the same thing that we are getting today.

“But it comes with additional responsibilities, but at least, we have what it takes to deliver on the responsibilities,” he said.
